My scratchboard work depicts a beautiful Chimpanzee, with the aim to show the soul of the animal through the expression of its eyes. The Chimpanzee looked quite thoughtful and reminded me about the relationship to our past animal ancestors, like the great apes.
This work is done in Scratchboard technique. It is a unique medium which allows me to create very detailed works and to transport my emotions for nature and wildlife with an artistic contrast and atmosphere. A Scratchboard is a wooden panel, covered with clay and painted completely in black Indian ink on top. I use a scalpel to carefully scratch the surface of the board and to remove the black color. This way the white clay layer is revealed by creating delicate white lines and textures with the sharp knife.
