Feline Intention

The African Leopard (Panthera pardus pardus) is a leopard subspecies occurring across most of sub-Saharan Africa. In 2008, the IUCN classified leopards as Near Threatened, stating that they may soon qualify for the Vulnerable status due to habitat loss and fragmentation. They are becoming increasingly rare outside protected areas. The trend of the population is decreasing. I had the luck to get a short glimpse at a wild African Leopard once when I was in Kenya. The encounter was very exciting, since these cats are elusive and know how to hide. Often the white tip of the leopard’s tail is the only hint of the cat laying in the with dry grass covered Vegetation.
