ISSA - 7th Annual Exhibition

Nose-Dvie by Diana Höhlig

As a first time participant, I'm very lucky to announce my Scratchboard 'Nose-Dive' (Red Kite, 18"x24") was juried into the ISSA annual show. The Middletown Arts Center in Ohio (U.S.A.) hosts the 7th Annual Exhibition of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists from 4th May to 31th May 2018. It was a very special surprise to learn my work received the NEWCOMER AWARD by the jury at the opening evening.

International Society Of Scratchboard Artists

The International Society of Scratchboard Artists, which was launched in 2011, is dedicated to the promotion of scratchboard as fine art, providing support to artists, and education to the public. The organization offers membership levels for all artists from supporters, to beginners, to professionals.

What is Scratchboard?

Scratchboard is a fine art form that is created on a board coated with white clay and then a layer of black India ink over the clay. Artists use abrasive tools to remove the black ink to create an image. Artists may choose to keep their boards black and white or proceed to color the exposed clay with a variety of transparent mediums. Clay boards without black ink are also used; in this case, the artists adds transparent media over the clay and then uses various tools to scratch through the color.
