Return from the Sea

The Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) can be found on the small North Sea island Heligoland, located in the German Bight. The population of the graceful, goose-sized birds has established in the early ´90s and reached approximately a number of 300 mating pairs today. After the return from the sea, the partners always greet each other. The ritual includes flapping wings, dancing close together and finally they gentle embrace their heads.
