Buoyancy

The Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) is a rare but regularly breeding bird in the lake region of Western Switzerland. Yellow buoys show the border of the nature recreation zone where the birds are nesting. Normally the common tern prefers pebble beaches as breeding ground. But these naturally disturbed wild-waterfronts have become seldom. Human activities and destruction of the natural environment along the shoreline leave no natural space for the birds. Over the last couple of years wooden platforms were installed in the shallow water to provide the birds a place for their nests. The birds are welcoming this new opportunity and return to the lakes. It is wonderful to welcome the terns back each spring after the long migrating and see them raising offspring.

'Buoyancy' was juried in the Birds in Art 2021 exhibition. It is my third time to participate in the international renowned exhibition for bird painters. Read more about this event and BIA in my news section.
