I had a lot of fun watching this Thirteen-Lined Ground-Squirrel in Wisconsin, U.S.A. The cute little chap was not shy at all and I've got some nice reference photos of the animal collecting seeds in the grass. The patterns on its back are quite unique and I figured it would look great when transformed into a scratchboard work.
The scratchboard technique allows a very detailed work of black and white pictures. A scratchboard is made of a wooden panel covered with a basic clay layer and the surface is stained with black Indian ink. White lines were generated by scratching the surface and the remove of the ink coat.
This artwork won Third Place at the international exhibition 'Golden Turtle' 2018, nominated in the art category GRAPHIC ART. THE PORTRAIT OF THE ANIMAL.
