As a Wildlife artist it is my goal to portray the natural countenance of each species I draw and to give the viewer the possibility to look closely into the wild animals eyes. The mindful glance of the Mountain Gorilla reminds me about our own evolutionary relationship to our animal ancestors. It is sad to see the last populations declining due to habitat loss, human-conflicts and poaching in the animals wild habitat at the African continent.

This work is done in Scratchboard technique. It is a unique medium which allows me to create very detailed works and to transport my emotions for nature and wildlife with an artistic contrast and atmosphere. A Scratchboard is a wooden panel, covered with clay and painted completely in black Indian ink on top. I use a scalpel to carefully scratch the surface of the board and to remove the black color. This way the white clay layer is revealed by creating delicate white lines and textures with the sharp knife.
