The Golden Eagle is often referred as an avian king - majestic and so graceful in its apparition. I’m lucky enough to regularly see these powerful raptors in the Swiss mountains soaring high up in the sky. I wanted to portrait the sheer beauty of the animal and decided it would be perfect to do a portraiture of the bird in a special medium.
Therefore, I used the scratchboard technique which allows a very detailed work of black and white pictures. A scratchboard is made of a wooden panel covered with a basic clay layer and the surface is stained with black Indian ink. White lines are generated by scratching the surface and the remove of the ink coat.
