Elevated Architecture

During a trip to the Lake Constance region in Southern Germany, I’ve visited the small village Salem. It is very special for this place, that dozens of White Stork will settle in during the annually breading season. It is interesting to observe the busy chatting on the roof tops. Especially the nest buildings of the White Storks are architectural master pieces. I made some photographs and sketches of the storks during my visit , back in my studio I worked out this painting. I reduced my idea into a black-and-white art work, which gives the plumage of the storks and the elevated architecture justice.

This artwork was part of the internationally renowned exhibition 'Birds in Art' 2016 at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in the United States.
