Cormorant Courtship

As a bird artist I’m constantly trying to capture the unique and pure characteristics of the avian behavior in my works. At the same time, I want to show the unseen and often not recognized beauty of certain species. The cormorant is such a kind of bird - not everybody's favorite and often hated by fisherman. It is a shame, when a species gets such a bad reputation evaluated by a minority. My artwork shows the true beauty of the bird and the stunning plumage in all its glory.

The scratchboard technique allows a very detailed work of black and white pictures. A scratchboard is made of a wooden panel covered with a basic clay layer and the surface is stained with black Indian ink. White lines were generated by scratching the surface and the remove of the ink coat.
