I saw this bird on a morning walk at the open cultivated land in a village of Switzerland. As I passed a water stream and the green meadows, I reached the edge of the field. Suddenly a bird shot up from the ground. My eyes followed its course into the trees. The little guy perched on a branch high above in a big ash tree. With curiosity we watched each other. I expected the Tree Pipit would fly away but instead the bird seem to relax and began sunbathing. A great opportunity for me to take some pictures and to observe its behavior. All its feathers fluffed up, the light gently touched its shoulder and tail feathers. I recognized the belly of the bird was quite dark inside the plumage. A characteristic I have not known before nor seen described in my field books. So, it was fun to treasure this pose and interesting observation in a small scratchboard work.
