Nordic Camouflage

The Snowy Owl is a bird of the high Nordic landscape, where they inhabits typical Tundra landscapes at circumpolar range. Male birds have a completely white plumage. As opposite to this the female appears white with black markings beginning at the forehead and from there covering the body and wings of the bird. This camouflage look helps the bird to blend in perfectly with the landscape which is especially helpful during the breeding season, when the female sits on the ground to incubate the eggs. The typical black and white pattern were a tempting subject for my Scratchboard art, even though white animals are a real challenge to illustrate in this technique.
